In a recent court appearance, Toronto Police Service Const. Boris Borissov faced accusations of stealing credit and debit cards, as well as a luxury watch, from a deceased person’s home. The incident took place on the evening of Feb. 18, 2022, when Borissov was called to investigate the apartment of a missing man. Upon arrival, he discovered a suicide note, sparking a chain of events that would lead to his current legal troubles.

The discovery of the missing man’s belongings

During the investigation at the missing man’s apartment, Borissov stumbled upon an empty box for a Tag Heuer watch. His subsequent Google search of the brand raised suspicions, especially when photos of a Tag Heuer watch were found on his phone later that evening. Borissov defended himself in court, claiming that the watch in the photos was not the one from the deceased man’s home but a watch he owned personally.

Allegations of credit card theft

The plot thickened in April 2022 when Borissov was also charged with stealing a credit card linked to a separate missing person. He allegedly gave the stolen card to a man named Zvedzdomir Mollov, who used it to make a purchase at a Mississauga store. Further investigation revealed that Borissov and Mollov had fraudulently obtained vehicles using the stolen credit card, which belonged to the missing man found deceased.

Denials and explanations

In his court appearance, Borissov vehemently denied stealing the credit and debit cards, as well as giving them to Mollov. When questioned by his lawyer, Joanne Mulcahy, Borissov claimed that he found the deceased man’s wallet in a jacket and brought it to his scout car out of concern for it being blown away by the wind. The cards were later discovered at Mollov’s residence, leading to further scrutiny of Borissov’s involvement in the alleged theft.

Legal proceedings and suspension

Borissov pleaded not guilty to charges of theft, fraud, breach of trust by an official, obstruction of justice, and unauthorized use of a computer system. Despite his denial of any wrongdoing, the police veteran of 16 years has been suspended with pay since February 2022.
