SWAT Team Intervention

According to newly released court documents, the Grand Forks SWAT team made several attempts to safely apprehend Larson. After receiving no response from Larson, they resorted to firing gas canisters and using a BearCat vehicle to breach the exterior walls of the home. Larson retaliated by firing shots from a handgun at the SWAT vehicle, fortunately without causing any injuries.

Standoff Resolution

After a tense standoff, Larson eventually emerged from the home wearing a bathrobe. Despite being ordered to raise his hands, Larson reached for his pocket, prompting law enforcement to take action. Sergeant Ryan Wadlow fired a round from his AR-15, striking Larson in the back. Another deputy also fired a non-lethal round at Larson. The suspect was then taken into custody.

Eye-Witness Account

During the investigation, Larson’s mother revealed crucial details about the incident. She disclosed that she owned a handgun stored in her bedroom closet. When Holweger visited the home to drop off a dog, Larson emerged from a back bedroom and fired shots in the direction of his mother and Holweger. The woman managed to flee and call 911 from a neighbour’s house.

Search Warrant Discovery

Following the incident, a search warrant was executed inside the home, revealing Holweger’s body behind the front door. Shell casings were found at the front entryway and in a back bedroom, believed to be from the shots fired at the BearCat. Larson now faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and reckless endangerment. His first court appearance was conducted from his hospital bed, with bond set at $1 million.
