The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a distressing 911 call around 2:10 a.m. on February 25 from a witness who reported that her friend had been abducted by an unknown male. The witness provided crucial information to the sheriff’s dispatchers, who swiftly relayed it to responding deputies.

Deputies arrived at the scene and discovered that the witness and the victim, a 22-year-old woman from Whitewater, Wisconsin, had left a nightclub in Waukegan. As they were driving home, a man identified as Jonatan Luna-Carrasco, 28, of North Chicago, pulled up alongside them on Route 41 near Hanssen Road in Wadsworth.

Luna-Carrasco allegedly deceived the women by claiming they had a flat tire, prompting them to pull over. He then offered to help change the tire and persuaded the victim to keep warm inside his car. However, once she entered the vehicle, Luna-Carrasco drove off with her against her will.

Fortunately, the victim managed to escape from the car in the 3500 block of Highland Avenue in Gurnee and sought assistance from a nearby residence. The Gurnee police Department responded promptly and provided support until sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene.

Sheriff’s detectives suspect that Luna-Carrasco intended to take the victim to an undisclosed location. Although his exact motives remain unclear, the victim reported that Luna-Carrasco made inappropriate comments of a sexual nature after abducting her.

After learning that Luna-Carrasco was driving a gray Dodge Durango, dispatchers and deputies utilized Flock Camera technology to locate a vehicle matching the description. Following an extensive investigation, Luna-Carrasco was identified as the suspect responsible for the kidnapping.

An arrest warrant was issued for Luna-Carrasco on March 22, and he was apprehended in Waukegan on a Saturday. He is currently detained in the Lake County Jail awaiting a detention hearing scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Sheriff John Idleburg commended the collaborative efforts of law enforcement personnel involved in resolving this case, emphasizing the pivotal role played by Flock camera technology in identifying the offender. Detectives suspect that this may not have been Luna-Carrasco’s first offense and urge any other potential victims to come forward with information.
