death – Obituary- Cause of Death News : Verna Louise Leininger, 84, of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the West Point Care Center. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends during her final days.

Verna was born on May 10, 1939, in Fort Madison, Iowa, to the late John and Mary (Smith) Leininger. She grew up in the Fort Madison area and attended Fort Madison High School, where she excelled academically and was involved in various extracurricular activities.

After graduating from high school, Verna went on to pursue a career in nursing. She had a passion for helping others and dedicated over 40 years of her life to caring for patients in hospitals and nursing homes throughout the community. Verna was known for her compassion, kindness, and gentle touch, which comforted countless individuals during their time of need.

In addition to her career, Verna was also a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and happiness. Verna was a nurturing and loving presence in their lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Verna had a strong faith and was an active member of her local church, where she volunteered her time and talents to various ministries and community outreach programs. She had a deep connection to her faith and found comfort and solace in prayer and worship.

In her free time, Verna enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking. She had a green thumb and took pride in her beautiful flower beds and vegetable garden. Verna’s homemade pies and cookies were a favorite among her family and friends, and she was always willing to share her delicious treats with others.

Verna is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert Leininger; her children, Susan (Michael) Johnson, David (Karen) Leininger, and Jennifer (Mark) Thompson; her grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, Matthew, Jessica, Andrew, and Lauren; her siblings, John (Sue) Leininger and Mary (Tom) Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Leininger.

A celebration of Verna’s life will be held at Barr Memorial Chapel in Fort Madison on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Verna’s dedication to helping those in need.

Verna’s passing has left a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her memory will live on through the love and kindness she shared with others. She will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and her legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
