A devastating tragedy struck the community of Gqeberha when a beloved tavern owner, Philasande (Coke) Jakavula, was fatally shot in a minibus on Friday evening. The incident also left another man and a woman injured, sparking shock and disbelief among residents.

Details of the Shooting
The harrowing incident unfolded in KwaZakhele as SAPS Kwazakhele members were on patrol. At around 9:45 pm, they came across a white Toyota Quantum minibus riddled with bullet holes at the intersection of Daku and Salumntu Streets. Upon closer inspection, they discovered Philasande Jakavula, lifeless with gunshot wounds on the driver’s side. A woman was found lying next to the minibus, also suffering from gunshot wounds. Another male victim was reportedly shot as well, and both injured individuals were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

Philasande Jakavula, affectionately known as Coke, was a 53-year-old tavern owner from Bluewater Bay. Described as a pillar of the community, he was well-respected and loved by many.
