Family of Diabetic Man Files Wrongful Death Suit Against Nurse and Facility

The family of Nicholas Cymbol, a severely diabetic man who tragically died at the hands of a nurse overseeing his care, has filed a wrongful death suit against the facility where he lived. The lawsuit alleges that the nurse, Heather Pressdee, was allowed to berate and bully Cymbol, ultimately leading to his death. Pressdee has already been charged with administering excessive doses of insulin to patients, 17 of whom died as a result of her actions.
The Incident at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
Nicholas Cymbol, a 43-year-old resident at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler County, Pennsylvania, required around-the-clock care due to his brittle diabetes, anoxic brain injury, blindness, and neuropathy. Pressdee, who was hired as the manager of the unit where Cymbol lived, allegedly abused and mistreated him, calling him derogatory terms and preventing other nurses from providing him with food and water.
Despite multiple red flags and complaints from staff, the facility failed to remove Pressdee from Cymbol’s care. On April 30, 2023, Pressdee administered a lethal dose of insulin to Cymbol, causing his blood sugar to plummet. Paramedics were eventually called, and Cymbol was taken to the hospital for hypoglycemia. However, upon his return to Sunnyview, the nursing staff failed to monitor his condition properly.

Tragic End for Nicholas Cymbol
In the early hours of May 1, 2023, Cymbol was found in a hypoglycemic crisis and foaming at the mouth. Despite efforts to save him, he tragically passed away. Initially believed to have died of natural causes, an investigation revealed that Pressdee had administered the lethal dose of insulin that led to his death.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigations
Following Cymbol’s death, Pressdee was terminated from Sunnyview for her abusive behavior towards residents and staff. She has since been arrested and charged with murder and criminal neglect in connection with Cymbol’s case, as well as other suspicious resident deaths at various facilities.
The lawsuit filed by Cymbol’s family seeks compensatory and punitive damages, highlighting the negligence of the facility in hiring and supervising Pressdee. The criminal investigation into Pressdee is ongoing, with the possibility of further charges being filed.

The family’s attorney, Rob Peirce, expressed outrage at the facilities’ failure to address Pressdee’s abusive behavior, stating that they were hired to seek answers and justice for the victims.
