Tragic Death of Wall Painters in Coimbatore

In a devastating turn of events, two wall painters, M Manimaran, 32, and Saddam Hussain, 35, lost their lives after being brutally assaulted with iron rods by three youths in Coimbatore. The incident took place on March 25, and despite being rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment, both victims succumbed to their injuries.

Details of the Incident

Manimaran and Hussain, who were from Karur district, were working in a private company and staying in a rental house near Kinathukadavu. On the fateful night, around 1 am, the duo was walking on Kondampatti-Negamam road when they were accosted by the three youths from Srivaikuntam in Thoothukudi district. The youths questioned the painters for roaming in their locality, leading to a heated argument.

police investigations revealed that both the wall painters and the three assailants were under the influence of alcohol, which escalated the confrontation. In a fit of rage, the three youths mercilessly attacked Manimaran and Hussain with iron rods before fleeing the scene. Manimaran sustained injuries to his head and eyebrow, while Hussain suffered head injuries.

Arrest and Legal Action

The Kinathukadavu police swiftly arrested the three perpetrators, identified as D Selvam, 24, K Pathalam, 19, and an 18-year-old boy. They were all employed as loadmen in a coconut fibre mill in Coimbatore. The police remanded them in judicial custody and altered the case to section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code from attempt to murder.

Despite the best efforts of the medical staff at CMCH, Manimaran passed away on Thursday after receiving 20 sutures, while Hussain tragically succumbed to his injuries around 11.35 pm on Friday. The police inspector Thirumalaisamy has officially changed the case from attempted murder to murder and assured that further investigation is ongoing.
