Details of the Incident

Kishore, who was addicted to marijuana (ganja), was admitted to the Helping Hands De-Addiction Centre on the Karuvalur Road at Kovilpalayam on February 28. On Friday afternoon, Kishore began shouting at others in the centre, prompting concerns from fellow inmates who threatened to leave if the situation persisted. It was at this point that psychologist B Jaba Prasannaraj and warden M Aravind Hari allegedly restrained Kishore by gagging him with a cloth and duct tape and tying him with a belt.

As a result of the suffocation caused by the gagging, Kishore was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the early hours of Saturday. The police were alerted, and upon investigation, they arrested the psychologist and warden under Section 304 (2) of the Indian Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Further Investigations Underway

Authorities suspect that additional individuals may have been involved in the incident and are conducting further investigations to determine their role. The deceased’s body has been sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination, and the police are working diligently to uncover the full extent of the circumstances surrounding Kishore’s tragic death.

The de-addiction centre, which had more than 50 individuals undergoing treatment at the time of the incident, has come under scrutiny for its handling of the situation. The arrest of the psychologist and warden has sent shockwaves through the community, raising questions about the safety and security of such facilities.
