The tight-knit community of Massapequa, N.Y., is preparing to bid a final farewell to one of their own, fallen NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller. The funeral service for the 31-year-old hero will be held on Saturday morning at St. Rose of Lima Church in Massapequa, starting promptly at 10:30 a.m.

In order to facilitate the funeral procession, Nassau County police have announced road closures in the vicinity of the church. Merrick Road from Hicksville Road to Park Boulevard will be shut down in both directions from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Motorists should anticipate delays and intermittent closures on surrounding roads during this time.

Officer Jonathan Diller tragically lost his life while on duty. He and his partner were conducting a routine traffic stop in Far Rockaway, Queens, when the situation took a deadly turn. During the stop, an individual in the vehicle brandished a firearm and opened fire, hitting Officer Diller below his protective vest. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Diller dedicated three years of his life to serving with the NYPD’s Community Response Team in Queens. A native of Franklin Square, he resided in Massapequa Park with his wife, Stephanie, and their young son, Ryan. The community has come together to honour his memory, with hundreds attending wakes held on Thursday and Friday.

**Outpouring of Support**

In the wake of this tragedy, support has poured in for Diller’s grieving family. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has pledged to pay off the mortgage on the Diller family home, while other generous contributions have been made to cover funeral expenses and provide for Ryan’s future education.

**Legal Proceedings**

The alleged gunman, Guy Rivera, has been charged with first-degree murder of a police officer, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon. Rivera sustained injuries during the incident and is currently receiving medical treatment. Additionally, the alleged driver of the vehicle, Lindy Jones, faces charges of criminal possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a defaced weapon. Jones was reportedly out on bail for a prior weapons offense at the time of the traffic stop.
