According to the Simi Valley police Dept. Nixle report, the tragic incident occurred around 1:05 p.m. as Sorensen was cycling south on Quimisa Drive. Allegedly, he failed to stop at a stop sign and attempted to make a left turn onto West Los Angeles Avenue, where a vehicle travelling west collided with him.

Despite the immediate efforts of first responders, Sorensen succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Cmdr. Ritchie Lew of the SVPD revealed that another cyclist was with Sorensen at the time, but was not involved in the collision.
