The incident occurred on a Friday night in February when North Fond du Lac police Department Sergeant Bryce LaLuzerne initiated a traffic stop in the Village of North Fond du Lac. The situation escalated as the vehicle fled the traffic stop, leading to a pursuit. Eventually, a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputy deployed a tire deflation device, causing the vehicle to come to a stop on Interstate 41 near County Hwy Z in Winnebago County.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Lawrence M. Drennan, aged 36, called 911 and claimed to have a gun. Drennan then exited the vehicle and approached law enforcement officers. Sergeant LaLuzerne discharged his firearm, striking Drennan. Despite life-saving measures being performed, Drennan succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
