Kaylee Gain Involved in Another Physical Altercation

The 16-year-old girl, Kaylee Gain, who was left severely injured following a viral fight, was reportedly involved in another physical altercation at her St. Louis, Missouri, high school just a day before the tragic incident earlier this month. According to details shared with KSDK, a separate fight erupted in the Hazelwood School District on March 7, leading to at least one student being suspended. Attorney Greg Smith later identified Gain as the suspended student involved in the altercation, which resulted in her being out of school for fighting.

Charged with Assault

Despite being suspended, Gain was said to have returned to the neighborhood around the high school the following day at dismissal time. Smith, who is representing the 15-year-old Black girl charged with assault in connection to the March 8 fight against Gain, revealed that the altercation took place about a half mile from Hazelwood East High School and was captured on video. The footage shows a crowd watching as the two teenagers threw punches at each other, with the situation escalating when Gain was pinned to the ground and repeatedly assaulted.

Severe Injuries and Hospitalization

Responding officers found Gain injured at the scene and rushed her to a hospital for treatment. Her family’s attorney, Bryan Kaemmerer, disclosed that she had sustained a fractured skull, resulting in brain bleeding and swelling. Fortunately, an update from Gain’s family last week confirmed that she is now in stable condition and out of the intensive care unit, although it remains uncertain if she is still unconscious.

A Call for Compassion

The alleged suspect’s family claimed that the honor roll student was a victim of harassment and bullying and was merely acting in self-defense during the altercation. Following a suggestion from Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey to try the suspect as an adult, a petition was created to urge officials to consider compassion in her case. The petition, which has garnered over 1,000 signatures, emphasized the need to take into account all aspects of the suspect’s life, including her academic achievements and the circumstances leading to the altercation.

Legal Proceedings and Additional Charges

Prosecutors are reportedly moving to escalate the suspect’s case and transfer it from juvenile court. Smith expressed the fear and concern of the suspect’s parents, who are anxious for her safe return home. In a recent announcement, St. Louis County police revealed that eight other teenagers, ranging from 14 to 17 years old, have been referred to the St. Louis County Family Court for assault charges related to the brawl. However, it remains unclear if any of them are currently in custody.
