The Events Leading to the Tragedy

The incident began on March 31, 2020, when Harris discovered a video of her 12-year-old daughter engaged in a sexual act with a 22-year-old man named Antonio Harley. Distraught by this discovery, Harris immediately reported the information to the DeKalb County police Department.

The police officer who took the report warned Harris not to take matters into her own hands and advised her to let the authorities handle the situation. Despite this warning, just hours later, Harris drove a group of people, including three armed individuals, to an apartment complex where Harley resided.

The Confrontation

Upon arriving at the apartment complex, Harris instructed her daughter to point out which apartment belonged to Harley. When Harley failed to answer the door, Harris and her group chased him around the building. As Harley retreated into his apartment through the back door, someone in Harris’ group opened fire, striking Harley in the chest.

Tragically, in the exchange of gunfire, a 19-year-old young man named Juan Newkirk, who was part of Harris’ group, was struck and killed. The situation quickly escalated into a violent confrontation that resulted in senseless loss of life.
