In a tragic turn of events, Hays Independent School District has made public two videos captured by cameras on a school bus involved in a fatal collision with a concrete truck in western Bastrop County. The incident occurred as the bus was transporting pre-K students from Tom Green Elementary School and 11 adults back from a field trip to the Bastrop Zoo.

The footage shows the moment an oncoming truck veers across the double line in front of the bus at 1:58 p.m., leading to a head-on collision. Despite the bus driver’s efforts to steer away from the truck, the two vehicles collide, resulting in a rollover and scattering of bus parts and papers onto the road. The raw video, which was later edited for sensitivity reasons, captured the sounds of screaming and crying in the aftermath of the crash, followed by the sight of other motorists rushing to help.

Hays ISD spokesperson Tim Savoy justified the decision to release the video, citing compliance with the Texas Public Information Act.
