According to reports from Austin news station KEYE, Hernandez disclosed to a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper that he had used cocaine on the morning of the crash and had smoked marijuana the night before. The bus was ferrying pre-K students and adults from Tom Green Elementary School back from a field trip to the Bastrop Zoo when the collision occurred.
