Tragic Crash Claims Three Lives in Laughlin

A devastating crash in Laughlin, Nevada, has left three people dead after a 29-year-old driver was accused of driving impaired and causing a fatal collision. The incident occurred on March 23 at around 2:38 p.m. on State Route 163 eastbound, west of mile marker 12, involving a semi-tractor and two motorcycles, one of which had two occupants.

Details of the Tragic Accident

Nevada State police reported that the driver of the Freightliner semi, identified as Claude Rafiki from Grand Rapids, Michigan, was traveling westbound on Route 163 in a westbound travel lane. The motorcyclists, identified as Jeremy George Gebo, Owen Merrell Hart, and Athena Faye Taylor from St. George, Utah, were traveling eastbound on the same route.

According to police, the driver of the semi crossed an unprotected center median, veered into the eastbound travel lane, and collided with the motorcycles, resulting in the tragic deaths of all three motorcyclists at the scene.

Legal Actions Taken

Claude Rafiki was taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of impaired driving and other related charges. The Nevada Highway Patrol Southern Command Multidisciplinary Investigation & Reconstruction Team is currently conducting an investigation into the crash, which marks the 18th fatal crash in Southern Command resulting in 22 fatalities for 2024.
