Modus Operandi

Agarwal’s scheme commenced innocuously as she sought lodging in PGs under the guise of attending job interviews. By convincing PG owners to allow her a temporary stay of one to two weeks, she managed to conceal her true intentions. However, Agarwal’s true motives soon became apparent as she began pilfering laptops left unattended during meal times. Her targets were scattered across locations such as Tin Factory, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Silk Board, Hebbal, Mahadevapura, and Whitefield.

Efficient Disposal of Stolen Goods

What set Agarwal apart was her meticulous approach to stealing and swiftly disposing of the stolen laptops. Leveraging her connections, she managed to sell the stolen devices to individuals in the second-hand electronics market, fetching substantial sums ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000. With her pockets lined with cash, Agarwal would then retreat to the comfort of her hometown in Rajasthan.

Unravelling the Crime Spree

Agarwal’s streak of successful thefts came to an end when surveillance footage from a PG in HAL captured her fleeing with three laptops in September 2022. Subsequent investigations into similar incidents in other PGs aided law enforcement in narrowing down their search to Agarwal. Reports indicate that the police have recovered a total of 24 laptops from Agarwal, with investigations ongoing.
