Israeli Strikes Result in 16 Deaths

In a tragic turn of events in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon, Israeli strikes on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of 16 individuals. The strikes targeted a paramedic centre linked to a Lebanese Sunni Muslim group, killing seven members of the group. This incident raised the death toll from Israeli strikes on that day to 16.

Hezbollah Claims Responsibility for Rocket Attack

Adding fuel to the fire, the Shia militant group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing a barrage of rockets into the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona and a military base. The rocket attack resulted in the death of one person. Hezbollah stated that the rockets were in retaliation for the deadly strike on the paramedic centre.

Deadly Strikes in Lebanon

The Lebanese news agency reported that Israel bombed the village of Teir Harfa after sunset, killing five individuals. A second strike took place in the coastal town of Naqoura, where four people, including paramedics, lost their lives. The Islamic health society of Hezbollah confirmed that two of its paramedics were among those killed in Teir Harfa, while the Islamic Risala scout association reported the death of one of its members in the Naqoura strike.

Response from Israel

In response to the attacks, Israel’s military stated that they had targeted a Hezbollah military compound in Teir Harfa and a “terrorist cell” in Naqoura. Israel also claimed that the earlier strike in Hebbariye had targeted a member of the Sunni al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, who was allegedly involved in attacks against Israel.

Escalating Violence

The violence between Israel and Lebanon has been escalating, with near-daily incidents along the border. Hezbollah has been launching rockets into northern Israel, resulting in casualties on both sides. The conflict has claimed the lives of nearly 240 Hezbollah fighters and around 40 civilians in Lebanon, while nine civilians and 11 soldiers have been killed in Israel.

Attacker Wounds Three in West Bank

Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank, an attacker opened fire at several vehicles on a main route, injuring three individuals. The attacker fled the scene, and Israeli forces are currently conducting searches. The injuries were reported to be moderate or light, with a 13-year-old among the wounded.

Healthcare Crisis in Gaza

The situation in Gaza has also worsened, with two-thirds of the territory’s hospitals not functioning. Al Amal hospital in the south of Gaza has ceased operations due to intense military activity. The UN World Health Organisation reported that Gaza now only has 12 operating hospitals, with most of them partially functional.

As the conflict continues to escalate, the toll on civilians and healthcare facilities in the region continues to rise. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing violence..
