Israeli Strikes Lead to 16 Deaths in Lebanon

Tragedy struck in Lebanon as Israeli strikes claimed the lives of 16 people on Wednesday. The casualties included members of paramedic centres and militant groups, sparking a cycle of violence in the region.

Hezbollah Retaliates with Rocket Attacks

The Shia militant group Hezbollah retaliated by launching a barrage of rockets into the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona and a military base, resulting in the death of one person. Hezbollah claimed that the rocket attacks were in response to the deadly strike on the paramedics centre.

Details of the Fatal Strikes

The Lebanese news agency reported that Israel bombed the village of Teir Harfa, resulting in the deaths of five individuals. A second strike in the coastal town of Naqoura claimed the lives of four people, including paramedics.

Hezbollah’s Islamic health society and the Islamic Risala scout association confirmed the deaths of their members in the strikes. Additionally, the Amal movement reported the loss of one of its local commanders in Naqoura.

Israel’s Response and Casualties

Israel’s military stated that it targeted a Hezbollah military compound in Teir Harfa and a “terrorist cell” in Naqoura. The strikes in Hebbariye resulted in the death of a member of the Sunni al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, who was allegedly involved in attacks against Israel.

Escalating Violence in the Region

Hezbollah has been escalating tensions by firing rockets into northern Israel, leading to a series of violent exchanges along the Lebanon-Israel border. The ongoing conflict has resulted in the loss of nearly 240 Hezbollah fighters and around 40 civilians in Lebanon, as well as civilian and military casualties in Israel.

Attack in the West Bank and Healthcare Crisis in Gaza

Meanwhile, an attacker wounded three people in the occupied West Bank by opening fire at several vehicles on a main route. The injured individuals, including a 13-year-old, were reported to be in moderate or light condition. Israeli forces are conducting searches for the assailant.

On a separate note, UN humanitarian officials highlighted the dire healthcare situation in Gaza, revealing that two-thirds of the territory’s hospitals are non-functional. The closure of Al Amal hospital in the south has further exacerbated the healthcare crisis, leaving Gaza with only 12 operating hospitals, of which only a few are partially functional.
