The death toll from Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon has climbed to 16, including several militants and members of paramedic groups, according to Lebanese state media and the militant organizations. In northern Israel, one man was killed by a barrage of at least 30 rockets fired by Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in retaliation for an airstrike targeting a paramedic center linked to a Sunni Muslim group.

International mediators have been working to prevent a full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah amid escalating violence, mostly concentrated along the Lebanon-Israel border. Hezbollah has been launching rockets towards Israel since October 8, the day after Hamas-led militants stormed into southern Israel, sparking the conflict in Gaza. The toll in Gaza stands at over 32,000 killed and 74,000 wounded, with women and children making up two-thirds of the casualties.

Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon killed nine people in southern Lebanon late Wednesday, including paramedics who were preparing to respond to the first strike, as reported by the state-run National News Agency. This brings the total number of people killed by Israeli strikes to 16 on that day. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing rockets into northern Israel, killing one person, in response to the deadly airstrike on the paramedic center.

Meanwhile, tension in the West Bank has increased since the start of the conflict in Gaza, with Israeli forces conducting raids to curb militancy. An attacker wounded three people after opening fire at several vehicles on a main route in the West Bank, according to Israeli authorities. Since the conflict began, Israel has arrested around 3,600 Palestinians in the West Bank. The Palestinian Health Ministry reports that at least 454 Palestinians have been killed and about 4,700 wounded in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since October 7.

In Gaza, Al Amal Hospital in the south has ceased operation amid intense military activity, leaving only 12 hospitals still open. Gaza now has just 12 operating hospitals, with two being minimally functional and 10 partially functional. The lack of functioning hospitals has led to a dire situation, with the U.N. reporting that roughly 70% of northern Gaza’s population is facing catastrophic hunger due to limited access to food supplies.

Hamas released a recording of the head of its military wing calling on Muslims globally to liberate Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third-holiest site in Islam, revered by both Jews and Muslims. The leader of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammed Deif, delivered the message in a message aimed at Muslims worldwide, urging them to join in the liberation of the mosque.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel has downplayed U.S. fears of a humanitarian catastrophe if Israel launches a planned ground invasion into Gaza’s southernmost city, Rafah. Netanyahu stated that civilians would be able to flee the fighting into other parts of Gaza, as people can simply move with their tents to safer areas away from the conflict zone.
