In a tragic turn of events, Israeli strikes on Wednesday resulted in the death of 16 individuals in Lebanon. The strikes targeted a paramedic centre linked to a Lebanese Sunni Muslim group, claiming the lives of seven members. This incident follows an earlier attack that hit a different paramedic centre, killing additional individuals.

Hezbollah Retaliates with Rocket Barrage
Following the deadly strike on the paramedics centre, the Shia militant group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for firing a barrage of rockets into the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona and a military base. Tragically, this retaliation resulted in the death of one person in Israel.
Lebanese Victims of the Israeli Strikes
The Lebanese news agency reported that Israel bombed the village of Teir Harfa, resulting in the death of five individuals. A second strike in the coastal town of Naqoura claimed the lives of four people, including paramedics from different organisations. Hezbollah, Islamic health society, and the Islamic Risala scout association all suffered losses in these strikes.
Israeli Military Response
Israel’s military stated that they had targeted a Hezbollah military compound in Teir Harfa and a “terrorist cell” in Naqoura. The military also confirmed that the earlier strike in Hebbariye had targeted a member of the Sunni al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, who was allegedly involved in attacks against Israel.
Escalating Violence in the Region
The ongoing conflict has seen near-daily violence along the Lebanon-Israel border, resulting in casualties on both sides. Hezbollah’s rocket attacks into northern Israel have led to the deaths of nearly 240 fighters and around 40 civilians in Lebanon. In Israel, nine civilians and 11 soldiers have lost their lives due to the fighting.

Incident in the Occupied West Bank
In a separate incident, an attacker opened fire at several vehicles on a main route in the occupied West Bank, wounding three people. The Israeli military is conducting searches for the attacker, who fled the scene after the shooting. Among the wounded is a 13-year-old individual.

The escalating military activity in Gaza has taken a toll on the healthcare system, with two-thirds of the territory’s hospitals currently non-functional. Al Amal hospital in the south of Gaza has ceased operations, leaving only 12 operating hospitals in the region.
