Man Recorded Making Derogatory Remarks Believed to Be Overseas

In a recent development, police have revealed that the man behind the video containing offensive remarks towards Islam, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and the police force is believed to have recorded the video overseas. The man in question, identified as N. Ganesparan, has been out of the country since 2018, with no records indicating his return.

History of Offensive Statements

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain stated that this is not the first time Ganesparan has made derogatory statements about the royal institution, religion, and politics. A total of 22 investigation papers have been opened against him since 2018, with charges filed against him in 2021 for insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Prime Minister.

Intensified Investigation and Legal Action

The police have requested Interpol to issue a red notice for Ganesparan, although religious and racial issues are not covered under Interpol’s Article 3. However, measures have been taken to cancel his passport, which was revoked in November 2020. Investigations are ongoing under Section 298A and Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Current Whereabouts and State Involvement

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain mentioned that Ganesparan is believed to be in Hamburg, Germany, after leaving the country in November 2017. In response, the Selangor state government has lodged a police report against him to ensure that the sovereignty of the royal institution and Islam is protected.

State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Borhan Aman Shah emphasized the importance of taking legal action against individuals who make inflammatory statements against the Selangor Sultan, Malay rulers, and muftis. He stressed that such actions could incite anger and lead to racial division, highlighting the need to defend the dignity of the royal institution and Islam.
