In a shocking turn of events, a homicide suspect in Grand Forks County allegedly fired on a law enforcement vehicle in Larimore, a town located approximately 30 miles west of Grand Forks. The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Troy R. Larson, is said to have declined requests to surrender and made a suspicious motion towards his waist, prompting officers to open fire.

The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene at 502 W. Eighth St. in Larimore after a woman reported witnessing a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies and North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers discovered that Larson had shot a male and female at the residence, resulting in the death of 64-year-old Jamey Holweger. The relationship between Larson and the victims remains unclear.

As the situation escalated, the regional SWAT, negotiations, and UAS teams were called in to assist. Despite repeated commands to surrender peacefully, Larson reportedly refused to comply. Despite orders to keep his hands in the air, Larson continued to lower them, prompting Sergeant Ryan Wadlow to fire his weapon, striking Larson in the back. Another deputy deployed a direct impact round, also hitting Larson.

Even after being shot, Larson remained non-compliant until he was finally secured in handcuffs by officers. He was then treated by SWAT paramedics on scene and transported to Altru for further medical attention. As of the latest update, Larson’s current condition remains unknown.
