Tragedy Strikes Jakhepal Village in Patiala

In a tragic turn of events, a 28-year-old man named Inderdeep Singh has reportedly died of a drug overdose in Jakhepal village of Sunam, Patiala. This incident comes in the wake of spurious liquor deaths that have been plaguing the region, with Sunam and Dirba villages already reeling from the effects of the hooch tragedy.

The deceased, Inderdeep Singh, was a resident of Jakhepal, where Gyan Singh, another victim of the hooch tragedy, hailed from. It is worth noting that three of the accused arrested in connection with the spurious liquor deaths were also from Jakhepal. The police suspect that Inderdeep either succumbed to a drug overdose or took his own life by consuming excessive painkillers. Sunam DSP Mandeep Singh has assured that a thorough investigation is underway, and more clarity will be provided once the post-mortem reports are available.

Krishan Jakhepal, a villager from the area, expressed his condolences by stating, “The deceased’s father had passed away some time ago, and his brother is currently incarcerated in various cases. He leaves behind his ailing mother, adding to the heartbreak of the situation.”

Punjab Police Launches Crackdown on Lahan

Following the tragic deaths of 21 individuals in Sangrur district due to the consumption of spurious liquor, the Punjab Police, in collaboration with the state excise department, has initiated a campaign to track down and destroy the sources of lahan, the fermented material used in distilling liquor. In a series of coordinated efforts, the Ferozepur police unearthed and destroyed 32,000 litres of lahan buried in various locations along the Satluj river, concealed in plastic sheets and iron drums.

Meanwhile, the Muktsar police made a significant discovery in Kattianwali village, recovering nearly 22,000 litres of lahan from the Lambi assembly segment. The seized lahan was promptly destroyed to prevent any further tragedies from occurring. This crackdown on illicit distillation activities aims to curb the circulation of spurious liquor and protect the safety of the residents in the region.
