Arrest of Two Men in Boise Hospital Ambush Unveiled in police Affidavit
A recent Twin Falls Police Department affidavit has brought to light the arrest of two individuals accused of orchestrating an ambush at a Boise hospital, resulting in three injured Idaho Department of Correction officers. Skylar Meade and Nicholas Umphenour were apprehended after a 36-hour manhunt that culminated just two hours east of the Treasure Valley. Following the shooting at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, authorities claimed that Meade and Umphenour drove approximately six hours north to the Lewiston area, where they were allegedly involved in the deaths of two men later that same day.

Statewide Manhunt Ends in Twin Falls Arrest
By 2 p.m. on Thursday, the two suspects were taken into custody in Twin Falls with the help of various local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Boise Police Department reported that Umphenour shot two IDOC officers while Meade, an Idaho prisoner receiving medical treatment for self-inflicted injuries, was being transported back to prison around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, allowing the pair to escape police custody. A third officer was also shot by Boise police during the incident. While two of the officers have been discharged from the hospital, the third remains hospitalized.
Legal Charges and Ongoing Investigations
Umphenour now faces five felony charges, including three counts of aggravated battery or assault against law enforcement, use of a deadly weapon during a felony, and aiding and abetting an escape, as outlined in a criminal complaint filed by the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office. Meade, on the other hand, is charged with a single count of felony escape based on court records. Although Idaho State Police suspect a connection between the suspects and the North Idaho homicides of 72-year-old Don Henderson and 83-year-old James Mauney, no charges have been filed in relation to their deaths.

During the pursuit of Umphenour, FBI Agent Christopher Sheehan observed Meade in the passenger seat of a silver Chevy Silverado pickup truck driven by another individual, Tonia Huber. The vehicle was seen speeding towards Twin Falls at over 30 miles per hour above the posted limit, posing a danger to those in its path. To halt the truck, Twin Falls Police Officer Tyler Kuder executed a pursuit intervention technique, bringing the vehicle to a stop in a Walgreens parking lot. Subsequently, Meade and Huber were arrested, with Umphenour also taken into custody in the Twin Falls area.
Upcoming Court Hearings and Legal Proceedings
Meade and Umphenour have been extradited to the Ada County Jail, where they made an appearance in court on Monday. Prosecutors have requested that their bonds remain at $2 million each, citing the dangerous nature of Umphenour’s criminal history. Both men are currently detained at the Ada County Jail and are scheduled to appear in court for their next hearings on April 8th at the Ada County Courthouse.
