Arrests made after Cow injured by country-made bomb

In a bizarre and disturbing incident near Ambur town, in Tirupattur, five individuals were arrested for causing injuries to an animal. The incident occurred when a cow bit into a country-made bomb along the dry Palar river. The accused persons were identified as S. Manoharan (40), P. Venkatesan (50), K. Ranjith Kumar (42), C. Manjunath (27) and J. Devaraj (35). Manoharan, Venkatesan, and Ranjith Kumar hailed from Vaniyambadi town, while the other two were from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.

Illegal activities uncovered

According to initial inquiries, the men from Vaniyambadi, who were all farmers, were regularly procuring country-made bombs from Chittoor. Their intention was to use these bombs to hunt wild boars along the fringe areas of reserve forests in Ambur and Vaniyambadi. The farmers would conceal these bombs in sacks of garbage, which they would dump on the dry riverside and lake bunds near forests. The wild animals attracted to the food would then be killed, and their meat sold in various markets in the district.

Tragic turn of events

The farmers had placed one of these bombs in a sack of cabbage waste and dumped it on the riverside in Sengilikuppam village near Ambur town. Unfortunately, a cow belonging to dairy farmer S. Pravenn Kumar (28) bit into the bomb while grazing along the dry river. Kumar heard the bomb detonate and found his cow bleeding from the mouth. A case was registered by the Ambur Taluk police.

Investigation and arrests

During the investigation, the police discovered that one of the accused persons, Manoharan, had given his phone number to a resident in the village to alert him about the presence of wild boar. Using this information, the police were able to trace the hideout of the perpetrators. Manoharan later confessed that the gang engaged in these activities to supplement their income from farming. Subsequently, the other accused individuals were also arrested and taken into custody at the sub-jail in Tirupattur town.
