Initially, Putin suggested that the attackers had fled towards the Ukrainian border, insinuating Ukrainian involvement. However, the US officials have dismissed any connection to Ukraine, labeling it as “Kremlin propaganda.” The White House spokesperson John Kirby stated that there was no evidence linking the attack to Ukraine.

In a speech to senior Kremlin officials, Putin acknowledged that the Islamic State group was behind the attack but continued to insist on a Ukrainian link. He accused the United States of spreading false information about the attack being carried out by IS members rather than Ukrainians.

Meanwhile, the head of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), Vasyl Maliuk, has warned that more “special operations” will be carried out this year to target Russian military hardware and infrastructure. Maliuk claimed that Ukrainian security agencies have destroyed 809 Russian tanks and disrupted at least 10% of Russia’s refining capacity through attacks on oil refineries.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin declared that those responsible for the attack at Crocus City Hall deserved “no mercy.” Four suspects, including three Tajik nationals, appeared in court on terrorism charges related to the attack. The suspects are currently in custody awaiting trial, with the possibility of facing life in prison if found guilty.
