Charges Against Three Individuals

Koran Jackson, Tyiion Kyree Freeman, and Stephen Nelson are among the five individuals facing charges in connection to the fatal shooting of 13-year-old Malachi Lukes on March 1, 2020. The incident took place on the 600 block of S Street, NW, and left another juvenile victim injured with a gunshot wound to the right leg.

Alleged Co-Conspirators

The case also involves Reginald Steele and Aaron Brown, who are alleged co-conspirators in the incident. The prosecution claims that the defendants were seeking retaliation for a previous shooting involving 19-year-old Tahlil Byrd on the same block in 2019.

Firearm Conspiracy Allegations

The prosecution has been working to connect Jackson, Freeman, and Nelson to additional shootings that occurred in the area. They allege a firearm conspiracy in which the defendants aimed to obtain specific weapons for their criminal activities, resulting in Lukes’ tragic death.

Physical Evidence Presented

During the trial, a former forensic analyst from the Department of Forensic Sciences presented physical evidence collected from a search warrant executed in May 2020. The evidence included a firearm, cartridge casings, a ballistics vest, and car keys.

Digital Evidence Presented
