Tragic Cyclone Hits Tripura, Leaving One dead and Three Fishermen Missing

In a devastating turn of events, a cyclone struck Dhalai district in Tripura on Saturday night, leading to the disappearance of four fishermen at the Dumboor reservoir. Officials have confirmed that one body, identified as Haridas Das (46), has been recovered with the help of local civil defence and Fire and Emergency services. The search for the remaining three missing fishermen is currently underway.

Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and assured that efforts are being made to locate the missing fishermen. He acknowledged the extensive damage caused by the cyclone in various parts of the state, including Sepahijala district, South district, and Khowai district. The state government is committed to providing assistance to the affected families in this difficult time.

According to reports from the State Emergency Operation Centre, a total of 23 houses were completely destroyed, while 215 houses suffered severe damage, and 4,345 houses were partially damaged due to the cyclone and gusty winds. The state administration has already provided financial aid to severely affected house owners in Jirania and Mohanpur.

Weather Forecast and Warning

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted one to two spells of light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers in certain areas of Tripura over the next 24 hours. The minimum temperature is expected to be 20°C, with a maximum of 32°C on Monday. The IMD has also issued a warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kilometres per hour in isolated locations across the state.
