Wild Boar Poachers Arrested in Kolhapur

In a recent development, the Malkapur forest range in Shahuwadi tehsil of Kolhapur district has made a significant breakthrough by apprehending three poachers involved in hunting wild boar for their meat consumption. The forest officials seized a single-bore hunting gun (licensed), 6 pellets, gun powder, and 3 mobile phones from the accused individuals.

Amit Bhosale, the range forest officer of Malkapur, revealed that the operation was initiated following a tip-off received on the night of March 21. The information suggested that a wild boar had been illegally hunted at Mauje Shimpe village in the Malkapur forest area. After conducting a thorough local inquiry, the suspects were identified.

On March 22, a raid was conducted at the residences of the suspects, leading to their detention for interrogation. During questioning, the accused confessed to the crime, resulting in their subsequent production before the Shahuwadi first-class magistrate court. The court remanded the accused to three days of judicial custody.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Babaso Akaram Patil, a resident of Shimpe village, Suhas Shamrao Patil, and Balaso Dhondiba Kumbhar, both residents of Save village in Shahuwadi tehsil of Kolhapur district. The forest officials have also indicated that additional suspects are believed to be involved in the illegal hunting activity, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend them.
