A Leesburg man, Tyre Orlando Morales, found himself behind bars on Tuesday for breaking a man’s car window to attack him following their involvement in a car collision early last year. The incident, which took place on March 16, 2023, resulted in Morales facing charges of battery and criminal mischief.

The events leading up to Morales’ arrest began when officers from the Leesburg police Department responded to a report of a vehicle crash and battery at the Northlake Plaza on Citrus Boulevard. The male victim, driving a blue BMW passenger car, was involved in a collision with Morales’ gray Chevrolet passenger car near the plaza’s intersection on U.S. Hwy. 441/27.

After the crash, both vehicles pulled into the plaza as neither driver was incapacitated. It was then that Morales confronted the victim, striking him multiple times with a closed fist through the victim’s open car window. The victim sustained injuries to his face, head, and shoulder, resulting in a bloody nose and lip.

Despite the victim’s attempts to avoid further harm by rolling up his car window, Morales forcefully broke the window, causing an estimated $450-500 in damage. Morales then continued his assault on the victim before fleeing the scene in his vehicle, heading northbound on U.S. Hwy. 441/27 towards Fruitland Park.

The victim, fearing for his safety, followed Morales until they reached Indian Trail Road, at which point he decided to stop pursuing Morales and instead notified the police. Morales, however, returned to the scene with the female registered owner of the vehicle shortly before law enforcement arrived.

During the investigation, the victim’s injuries were documented, and Morales was identified as the suspect based on the victim’s description and subsequent photo lineup. Morales later admitted to driving his mother’s car during the crash and placed blame on the victim for the collision.

In a twist to the case, the female registered owner of the vehicle provided false information to law enforcement regarding her son’s involvement in the incident. Despite initially agreeing to bring her son in for questioning, she failed to do so and faced impending criminal charges for providing misleading information.

As the case progressed, Morales was formally charged with battery and criminal mischief for his role in the altercation. The victim’s injuries, along with Morales’ admission of guilt, served as key pieces of evidence in the investigation.

The Leesburg Police Department commended the victim for his cooperation throughout the investigation and reiterated the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions. Morales’ arrest serves as a reminder that violent behaviour will not be tolerated in the community, and those responsible will face the consequences of their actions.

Morales remains in custody pending further legal proceedings, while the victim continues to recover from the physical and emotional trauma inflicted upon him during the incident. The community at large is encouraged to report any instances of violence or criminal activity to law enforcement promptly to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents..
