By | March 23, 2024

In recent news, the political landscape in Delhi has been heating up as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) takes a mocking tone towards the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. Amid staunch defenses of their leader, Arvind Kejriwal, by AAP leaders, BJP has suggested that they are vying amongst themselves to succeed Kejriwal as the chief minister of Delhi. Union Minister Anurag Thakur recently made remarks implying that AAP leaders are competing to replace Kejriwal as CM, even going as far as to mention that Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, has joined the race.

Thakur strongly criticized Kejriwal’s persistence as CM despite being under arrest, labeling it as a regrettable moment in the nation’s political trajectory and a display of unfavorable politics. He also condemned Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann over a tragic incident in Sangrur where at least 20 individuals lost their lives due to the consumption of tainted liquor. Thakur alleged that the entire AAP seems embroiled in one liquor-related scandal after another.

In response to opposition parties expressing solidarity with Kejriwal, Thakur dismissed it as “thieves showing brotherhood.” He pointed to the Congress’ prior complaint against Kejriwal over an alleged liquor scam, questioning the party’s support for him. Thakur emphasized that nobody is claiming Kejriwal’s innocence and denied the existence of any scam.

Thakur went on to contrast Kejriwal’s situation with that of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, who, before his arrest in corruption cases related to the fodder scam, opted to install his wife in his place. Regarding Kejriwal’s refusal to participate in the probe before his arrest, branding the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summons as illegal and part of BJP’s political vendetta, Thakur highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s past compliance when summoned for questioning during his tenure as Gujarat CM.

Thakur also criticized Kejriwal and the Congress, accusing the latter of suggesting that the Income Tax department’s recent actions against it are driven by the Modi government’s vendetta to destabilize its finances during elections. He accused the Congress of arrogance, suggesting that they failed to file IT returns on time and believed themselves above the law.

The political tensions between the BJP and AAP have been escalating, with both parties trading jabs and accusations. The BJP’s mocking tone towards AAP leaders and their staunch defense of Kejriwal highlight the deep-seated animosity between the two parties.
