Arrest of Two Additional Superintendents of police

In a recent update on the phone tapping case, the Panjagutta police have taken two Additional Superintendents of Police into custody. The individuals have been identified as Bhujanga Rao and Tirupatanna. According to officials familiar with the investigation, they are believed to be associated with the suspended DSP of the SIB, Praneeth Kumar, also known as Praneeth Rao. The arrested ASPs are facing charges similar to those of Mr. Praneeth, including allegations of misusing their official positions to gather information on private individuals, tampering with evidence, and engaging in illegal surveillance activities with political motives.

Interrogation of Praneeth Kumar

Following a week-long interrogation of Praneeth Kumar, who is currently facing multiple charges, including criminal breach of trust, the West Zone police of Hyderabad have made significant progress in the case. The questioning, which commenced on March 17, focused on the contents of the hard drives that were destroyed by Mr. Praneeth. Additionally, investigators probed into the possible involvement of other officials in the alleged illegal activities. Praneeth Kumar is scheduled to appear before a court, where further decisions will be made regarding his custody and the continuation of the investigation.

Praneeth Kumar’s Arrest

The arrest of Praneeth Kumar took place on March 13 at his residence in Srinagar Colony of Rajanna-Sircilla district. The action was initiated following a formal complaint filed by his superior, D. Ramesh, who serves as an additional SP with the Special Intelligence Branch. The complaint highlighted concerns regarding Praneeth’s behaviour during his tenure as an Inspector and later as a DSP with the SIB from 2018 to 2023. Allegations against Praneeth include the destruction and replacement of data in 42 hard drives, as well as the sabotage of equipment containing sensitive information on the night of December 4, 2023, coinciding with the Telangana Assembly Elections-2023.

Legal Charges Against Praneeth Kumar

Praneeth Kumar has been charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 409 (criminal breach of trust), 427 (mischief causing damage), 201 (destruction of evidence), and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy). Additionally, cases have been registered against him under the Prevention of Destruction of Public Records Act (PDPP Act), 1984, and the Information Technology Act (ITA). The legal proceedings against Praneeth are expected to shed more light on the extent of his involvement in the alleged illegal activities and the potential repercussions for others implicated in the case.
