**BEND police OFFICER ON LEAVE AFTER FATAL SHOOTING INCIDENT**

A Bend Police Officer is currently on paid “critical incident leave” after a fatal shooting took place on Wednesday night. The officer had responded to a report of a non-injury crash on the Parkway, near Butler Market Road, just after 8:15 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle driving recklessly and speeding, almost causing multiple crashes. The suspect vehicle and its driver were located at the scene of the crash. At around 8:30 p.m., the officer shot the suspect, who unfortunately did not survive despite life-saving efforts.

The incident occurred in the northbound lanes of the Parkway, resulting in the closure of the entire highway for over three hours. Northbound traffic had to be detoured until approximately 5:30 a.m. on Thursday.
