High-Speed Pursuit in Barling Leads to Arrest of Two Individuals

In a dramatic turn of events in Barling, Arkansas, the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals following a high-speed pursuit on Thursday. The pursuit, which began on Bugscuffle Road near Lavaca, unfolded with heart-stopping moments and dangerous manoeuvres that put lives at risk.

Austin Pester, 25, now faces a slew of serious charges including felony fleeing in a vehicle, second-degree battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia. On the other hand, Serena Barrios, 27, is looking at a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The arrests came after a series of events that left law enforcement officers on high alert.

The pursuit began when a deputy from the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a speeding car at Bugscuffle Road and Arkansas State Highway 255. The passengers in the vehicle were found not wearing seatbelts, and as the deputy tried to stop the car, it accelerated to over 100 mph in an attempt to flee.

As the vehicle raced through Barling at speeds of around 60 mph, the front passenger made a daring move by opening the door and jumping out of the moving vehicle. The passenger rolled several yards, sustaining significant injuries. It was later discovered that the passenger had been carrying a loaded gun, adding a dangerous element to the pursuit.

End of the Pursuit

The pursuit finally came to a dramatic end in Fort Smith when a PIT maneuver was executed, causing the vehicle to crash into a parked, unoccupied Cintas truck. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement. Meanwhile, the passenger who had jumped out of the vehicle earlier explained his actions, stating that he tried to convince the driver to stop and even attempted to take control of the steering wheel.

Both Pester and Barrios were eventually arrested, with Pester being held in the Sebastian County Jail on a $6,500 bond and Barrios on a $500 bond. Court dates have been set for March 25 for both individuals, as they await further legal proceedings.
