A 21-year-old Jersey City man, Randy Barrett Jr., has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing that took place in Hoboken last Saturday morning. The victim, a 22-year-old individual not from Hoboken, suffered serious injuries including a collapsed lung as a result of the attack.

The incident occurred on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at approximately 4:15 a.m. in the area of Jefferson and Fourth Streets in Hoboken. police responded to reports of a stabbing and found the victim with stab wounds to his chest. Quick action by Sgt. James Barbaro and Officer Aaron Font, who administered life-saving aid, helped stabilize the victim until he could be transported to the hospital.

Investigation and Arrest

An investigation into the stabbing led by the Detectives Bureau identified Randy Barrett Jr. as the suspect in the case. It was revealed that Barrett Jr. and three other men confronted the victim after witnessing him allegedly breaking into parked cars. During the altercation, Barrett Jr. reportedly brandished a knife and stabbed the victim before fleeing the scene.

Further investigation also linked Barrett Jr. to a break-in of at least one parked car in the same area on the same night. On March 19, 2024, warrants were issued for Barrett Jr.’s arrest on multiple charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of weapons for unlawful purposes, theft, and burglary. Barrett Jr. turned himself in to Hoboken Police Headquarters on Wednesday and was subsequently taken into custody.
