Taylor Bowden : “Fatal Crash Driver Charged with Murder”

The driver accused of running from police in a stolen vehicle and causing a crash that claimed the life of a passenger has been taken into custody in Cleveland County, Oklahoma. According to the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on January 3 when a deputy pulled over a white Ford F-250 with obscured plates and a malfunctioning brake light on State Highway 9 around 2:15 a.m.

False Identification and Stolen Vehicle Report

Upon approaching the driver, later identified as 28-year-old Trenton Davis, the deputy requested identification. Davis provided a false name and claimed his license had been stolen. The female passenger in the vehicle also presented false identification. After relaying the vehicle’s plate number to dispatch, the deputy was informed that the vehicle matched a stolen vehicle report from Pontotoc County. Backup was then requested.

High-Speed Chase and Fatal Crash

While waiting for a second officer, Davis became agitated and fled the stop, speeding through nearby neighborhoods. The deputy pursued the suspect until the vehicle was obscured by dust kicked up on the road, ending the chase around 2:30 a.m. A crash was reported at approximately 2:35 a.m. east of 192nd Avenue near Alameda Street. Two deputies and a supervisor responded to the scene and discovered the stolen vehicle in a creek bed in three pieces.

Tragic Loss of Life

Davis was found lying in a field, conscious and breathing, with injuries to his head and complaints of pain in his hip and leg. The female passenger, later identified as Taylor Bowden, was found lying in the creek bed with a significant head wound. Despite deputies administering on-site medical aid, Bowden was pronounced dead at the scene by the Norman Fire Department.

Arrest and Charges

On March 20, detectives with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshal Service, took Davis into custody on a felony warrant related to the incident on January 3. Davis was located in Ada, Oklahoma shortly after the warrant was issued. He is facing charges of Murder in the First Degree, Eluding a Peace Officer, Defective Equipment, False Personations, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Covered License Plate. Davis was taken to the Pontotoc County Jail.

Justice for the Victim

Lead Detective Ray Kimbrough expressed gratitude for the support from all agencies involved in clarifying jurisdiction and ensuring justice, particularly for the victim who tragically lost her life in the incident. The location of the incident presented jurisdictional challenges, prompting close collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and local tribes to determine the appropriate course of action.
