Tragedy Strikes in Delhi as Two Workers killed in Building Collapse

In a devastating turn of events, two workers lost their lives while another was critically injured when a two-storey building collapsed on them in Northeast Delhi’s Welcome area. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at a jeans factory operating on the ground floor of the building.

Details of the Incident

According to DCP (Northeast) Joy Tirkey, the authorities were alerted to the collapse through a PCR call at 2.16 am. The first floor of the building, which was under renovation, was empty, while the ground floor was being used for cutting jeans. Tragically, three workers were trapped under the debris, with two of them succumbing to their injuries at GTB Hospital.

The owner of the building and factory, identified as Shahid, is now under investigation in connection with the incident. The victims have been named as Arshad, aged 30, and Tauhid, aged 20. The injured worker, Rehan, aged 22, is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

Investigation and Legal Action

A case has been registered under IPC sections related to causing death by negligence, and efforts are underway to apprehend the owner. Authorities have revealed that the first floor of the building was undergoing construction work, with a significant amount of construction materials stored on the premises.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Rehan’s father, Fardeed Ahmad, shared his son’s harrowing experience, stating that Rehan had only recently started working at the factory and was earning around Rs 7,000 for his services.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has issued a statement shedding light on the incident. According to their information, the building, which was approximately 40 years old, was being demolished by the owner for personal reasons, leading to its collapse.
