Assault on Karnataka Student by Bajrang Dal Activists
An appalling incident of moral policing has recently come to light in Yadgir, Karnataka, where a 25-year-old student named Wahid Rehman was brutally assaulted by members of the Hindu outfit Bajrang Dal. The incident occurred on March 18 (Monday) as Rehman was on his way back from college and was confronted by a group of nine activists near Gogi Mohalla.

Details of the Attack
According to Rehman’s statement to the police, he was targeted for simply speaking with a girl named Chavi over the phone, who happened to be from a different community. Shockingly, Chavi had no connection to the assailants who attacked Rehman. The Bajrang Dal activists forcefully took him to a room, where he was confined for five hours and subjected to physical assault. Reports suggest that the attackers even brandished a knife and threatened to take his life.
Interrogation and Intimidation
During his ordeal, Rehman was interrogated about his interaction with Chavi while enduring insults and intimidation from the perpetrators. The 25-year-old student faced a harrowing experience as he was questioned and threatened by the group of activists.
Legal Action and FIR
Following the incident, an FIR has been lodged against individuals identified as Shivakumar, Tayappa, Mallu, Ambarish, and others at the Yadgiri Nagar police station. The accused have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 143, 147, 148, 307, 323, 341, 342, 363, 504, and 506. Shockingly, all the accused are currently at large, evading authorities after the registration of the FIR.
