Police Pursuit Leads to Tragic Outcome

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a stolen vehicle around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, but the driver refused to comply and led officers on a chase. Despite the pursuit being discontinued at one point, the suspect vehicle was spotted again and eventually crashed at Russell Road and Delany Road in unincorporated Zion.

Desperate Attempt to Flee

Upon crashing, the driver fled the scene on foot, prompting a search involving the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department. Canines and drones were deployed in an effort to locate the suspect, but unfortunately, he was not found.

Discovery in the Pond

Following the crash, the Pleasant Prairie Police Department received a report of a jacket floating in a pond east of the crash scene on the Wisconsin side of the border. Upon investigation, a body was discovered in the pond, prompting the involvement of Pleasant Prairie Fire and Rescue Department.

Identification of the Deceased

Authorities initially suspected that the body belonged to the fleeing suspect based on clothing, and on Monday, it was confirmed to be Joseph O. Rabaca, a 40-year-old man from Chicago with ties to Kenosha. Rabaca is believed to have died from drowning, adding a tragic layer to the already devastating incident.
