In an intense operation carried out by the C-60, a specialized combat unit of the Gadchiroli police, and the Central Reserve Police Force’s Quick Action team, four Naxalites met their fate in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on March 19. The encounter took place in the picturesque Kolamarka mountains near Repanpalli, where the Naxalites had taken refuge.

Police Response

The police had received a tip-off on March 18 afternoon, alerting them about the presence of Naxalites who had crossed over from Telangana to Gadchiroli. The Encounter

As one of the C-60 unit teams combed through the rugged terrain of the Kolamarka mountains, they were met with sudden and indiscriminate firing from the Naxalites. In a display of courage and valor, the security personnel retaliated, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. When the dust settled, the bodies of four male Naxalites lay on the ground, marking the end of their reign of terror in the region.

Recovery of Weapons and Rewards

Along with the bodies of the deceased Naxalites, the security forces recovered a cache of weapons and incriminating evidence. An AK-47 gun, a carbine, two country-made pistols, and Naxal literature were among the items seized from the encounter site. Notably, the Naxalites were carrying a collective cash reward of ₹36 lakh on their heads, highlighting their notoriety and threat to the peace and security of the region.

Identifying the Deceased

The police were able to identify the slain Naxalites as Vargeesh and Magtu, secretaries of different Naxal committees, along with platoon members Kursang Raju and Kudimetta Venkatesh.
