High-Stakes Operation

The Superintendent of police (SP) in Gadchiroli, Neelotpal, revealed that the suspected Maoists who were killed had a collective bounty of ₹36 lakh on their heads. The district police received crucial information on Monday afternoon regarding the presence of these individuals in the area. They had reportedly crossed the Pranhita River from neighboring Telangana with intentions of carrying out subversive activities during the model code of conduct in place for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Swift Response

Upon verifying the information, multiple police teams specializing in combat operations and the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) quick action team were swiftly deployed to conduct a search in the specified area. After the intense exchange of fire ceased, the security forces discovered four male bodies along with a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47, a Carbine, two country-made pistols, and CPI (Maoist) literature.

Identification of the Deceased

The district police have identified the deceased suspected Maoists as Vargeesh, Magtu, who were secretaries of different divisional committees of the CPI (Maoist), and platoon members Kursang Raju and Kudimetta Venkatesh. While these individuals were neutralized, there is suspicion that some injured Maoists may have managed to escape from the area following the encounter.

Ongoing Search Operation

In the aftermath of the gunfight, the area has been cordoned off, and an extensive search operation is currently underway to locate any potential fugitives. The district police chief emphasized the importance of maintaining heightened vigilance in the region to ensure the safety of the local community and prevent any further incidents of violence.
