Authorities have disclosed more information regarding the tragic shooting incident that took place near the iconic Philippi Covered Bridge on Friday. The Barbour County Sheriff’s Department conducted an extensive overnight search, leading to the apprehension of 26-year-old Michael Mussi in the Beech Lick area of WV Route 57 on Saturday morning.

Mussi has been formally charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident and is currently held without bond at Tygart Valley Regional Jail. The victim has been identified as Tanner Talbott, a resident of Belington.

The events unfolded at around 5 p.m. on Friday when Lt. D.A. Cale of the Philippi police Department responded to reports of a shooting at the Blue and Gray flag park in Philippi. Upon arrival, Cale and his team discovered Tanner Talbott lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported seeing a dark blue or dark gray Toyota Tacoma fleeing the area, which was later identified as being driven by Michael Mussi. It was revealed that Talbott was involved in an intimate relationship with Mussi’s wife, prompting the tragic turn of events.
