Arrest of Gang Members in Attempted Robbery

The Kodigehalli police have successfully cracked the case of an attempted armed robbery at Lakshmi Jewellery in Devi Nagar. Four members of the gang involved in the crime have been arrested with the help of local police as soon as they reached Gwalior railway station in Madhya Pradesh.

Prime Accused Succumbs to Injuries

Suraj, aged 30, was identified as the prime accused in the case. During a scuffle with the owner and an employee of the jewellery shop, Suraj sustained gunshot injuries to the neck. Despite being taken into custody, Suraj’s condition worsened, and he tragically succumbed to his injuries the following day at a government hospital.

Appreciation for Police Team

City police commissioner, B. Dayananda, has commended the police team for their swift and efficient investigation. In recognition of their efforts, a cash reward of ₹1 lakh has been announced for the police team and their counterparts in Gwalior.

Accused Identified as Habitual Offenders

According to DCP B.M. Laxmi Prasad, the accused are interstate habitual offenders with a history of involvement in over a dozen criminal cases. The gang is believed to have recently arrived in the city and conducted surveillance before targeting the jewellery shop.

Details of the Crime

The accused had been staying in the house of one of the gang members in Bidarahalli, who had been residing in the city for an extended period while working as a labourer. On the day of the robbery, the gang stole two motorcycles and armed themselves before carrying out the attack on the shop.

Police Intervention

The owner of the jewellery shop and a staff member bravely resisted the robbery attempt. During the altercation, shots were fired, resulting in injuries to Suraj, the shop owner, and the employee. The alarmed raised in the shop prompted the accused to flee on motorcycles, leaving behind a weapon.

Investigation and Arrest

Law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and began a thorough investigation. A fingerprint found at the crime scene led to the identification of the accused. With the assistance of an eyewitness who pursued the fleeing gang members, the police were able to track their movements.

Final Moments of Suraj

Suraj, determined to evade capture, rode a motorcycle for 1,200 kilometres without rest or sustenance until reaching Gwalior. Despite his efforts, the wound sustained during the robbery led to complications, ultimately resulting in his demise at the hospital.

Legal Proceedings

The three remaining accused have been presented before the court and remanded into police custody for further questioning. Authorities are actively searching for a fifth accomplice who provided logistical support and is currently at large.

Evidence Seized

During the arrests, three country-made pistols, 12 rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles, and two mobile phones were confiscated from the suspects. Investigators will delve into whether the gang was involved in similar criminal activities in the vicinity..
