Busy Weekend for Columbus police Department
Over the weekend, the Columbus Police Department had their hands full with two reported aggravated assaults. The incidents took place at different locations in the city, involving disturbing acts of violence that have left the community on edge.

Altercation at Red Roof Inn
In the early hours of the morning, a man identified as Damien Brown allegedly barged into a hotel room at the Red Roof Inn located at 510 Highway 45 North. Inside the room were Macy L. Barnes, 23, and her boyfriend, who got into a physical altercation with Brown. As Brown tried to make a run for it, Barnes took matters into her own hands and ran him over with a Buick outside the hotel.
Fortunately, Brown survived the incident with non-life-threatening injuries. However, Barnes was not let off the hook and has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault. She is currently being held in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, with burglary charges pending against Brown.
Disturbance at Club Ada
Another troubling incident occurred at Club Ada on 2005 13th Avenue North. Responding officers were met with reports of a disturbance and a shooting that had taken place at the club. A 36-year-old male victim arrived at the emergency room shortly after with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Both the victim and witnesses at the scene denied any involvement in prior altercations or street disputes. The police have identified a person of interest in the case but have refrained from releasing a name to the public at this time.

Suspect on the Run
In a separate incident, authorities are on the lookout for Kerry “Tay Tay” Smith, 29, of Columbus, in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on March 5. Smith is accused of shooting another man multiple times following a dispute in the 1000 block of 5th Avenue North.
