In a heartbreaking turn of events, a fire broke out in the boys’ dormitory at Victory Nursery and Primary School in Busia municipality, claiming the lives of four young pupils. The victims, identified as James Magero, John Richard Oburu, Mahmood Ali, and Odero Makokha, were in different primary classes at the school. Bukedi South Region Police spokesperson, Mr Moses Mubi, revealed that initial findings suggest the fire may have been intentionally started. The school director, Mr Fred Wabwire, along with the security guard and matron on duty that night, have provided statements to the police. Mr Godfrey Barasa, the Busia municipal inspector of Schools, disclosed that the school owner was operating an illegal boarding section. In response to the tragic incident, a security meeting chaired by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr Michael Kibwika, mandated the school to close for a week.
