The man proceeded to shield himself with a 4-year-old child and held a knife against the child’s throat while also restraining a 36-year-old woman who had sustained multiple stab wounds.

In a tense standoff, officers repeatedly instructed the male suspect to drop the weapon. The woman managed to break free from the assailant’s grasp and was rushed to McDonough District Hospital for urgent medical attention. Subsequently, an officer discharged their service revolver, resulting in fatal gunshot wounds to both the suspect and the child.
Identification of the Suspect
The deceased suspect has been identified as 57-year-old Anthony T. George of Macomb. The identity of the child has been withheld in accordance with the McDonough County Coroner’s policy. Macomb Police Chief Hamer affirmed that the officer acted out of self-preservation, fearing for their safety in the face of the escalating threat.
