Tragic Accident Claims Life of Henrico County Man
A devastating three-vehicle crash on Mechanicsville Turnpike in Henrico County has left a community mourning the loss of 39-year-old John A. Butler. The incident occurred on Friday evening, March 15, resulting in Butler’s untimely death.

Details of the Crash
The Henrico County police Division responded to the scene at 8:46 p.m., where they found Butler lying in the road with severe injuries. Despite efforts to save him, Butler was pronounced dead at the scene. The preliminary investigation revealed that Butler was attempting to make a left turn onto St. Claire Lane when his vehicle was struck by another car travelling east on Mechanicsville Turnpike.
As a result of the impact, Butler’s vehicle spun into the westbound lanes and was hit by a second vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. Tragically, Butler was ejected from his vehicle during the collision.
Police Investigation
The Henrico County Crash Team is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Initial findings suggest that speed and the absence of seat belts may have contributed to the severity of the incident. Detectives are working closely with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to gather more information.
