Suspects’ Deceptive Tactics Unveiled
The unfolding events began on March 5 when Perez and Gonzalez Alvarez allegedly masqueraded as Santa Rosa police Department officers and deceived a victim into surrendering his cell phone and credit card details. The duo falsely claimed that the victim’s accounts had been compromised, setting the stage for their criminal activities.
A Trail of Deception
With ill-gotten information in hand, the suspects proceeded to manipulate the victim’s tax return and acquire a $100 check by posing as the victim and his niece during a phone conversation with the victim’s tax preparer. The victim was unaware of these actions until March 11, when he attempted to retrieve his taxes and discovered the fraud.
The Fateful Confrontation
The situation escalated on March 14 when a deputy attempted to apprehend Perez and Gonzalez Alvarez on Santa Rosa Avenue. Perez, behind the wheel, refused to comply and initiated a dangerous pursuit that concluded in a fiery crash at the intersection of Corby and Hearn avenues. The impact caused the car and a gas pump to erupt in flames, prompting an emergency response from the Santa Rosa Fire Department.
Legal Ramifications
In the aftermath of the incident, Perez faced a slew of charges, including felony evading officers, burglary, conspiracy, theft by false pretenses, impersonation of a peace officer, possession of drugs, violation of post-release community supervision, and an outstanding warrant. She remains in custody without bail. Gonzalez Alvarez, on the other hand, was booked for felony conspiracy and burglary, subsequently released on pre-arraignment terms set by a judge..
