A Utah man is facing the possibility of up to 28 years in prison after allegedly crashing into a house in Laramie while trying to evade law enforcement. The incident occurred while the suspect, identified as Louie Anthony Villanueva, 30, of Layton, Utah, was in possession of marijuana, illegal mushrooms, and his child.
The case was recently transferred to the felony-level Albany County District Court, and it is currently ongoing.
The incident began when Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper Ethan Smith pulled Villanueva over for speeding on an Albany County highway. However, Smith quickly noticed the strong odor of raw marijuana coming from Villanueva’s vehicle, a Toyota Rav4. He also spotted a package of suspected marijuana on the passenger-side floorboard.
As Smith approached the vehicle, he discovered that Villanueva’s young son was also inside. Instead of cooperating with the trooper, Villanueva chose to flee the scene, reaching speeds of up to 108 miles per hour. During the pursuit, Villanueva swerved into oncoming traffic, narrowly avoiding collisions with other drivers. He even resorted to driving on the road shoulder to pass other vehicles.

Smith eventually decided to abandon the chase when Villanueva entered a town. However, Villanueva continued to speed through the streets of Laramie. In a harrowing turn of events, he lost control of his car, crashing through a fence and into someone’s house, completely destroying the front porch in the process.
Immediately after the crash, Villanueva removed his son from the vehicle, just as Trooper Smith arrived at the scene. The child was screaming in pain, prompting Smith to call for medical assistance.
Upon further investigation, agents discovered a significant amount of illegal substances in Villanueva’s vehicle. This included suspected psilocybin mushrooms, marijuana, THC vape pens, THC wax, and drug paraphernalia. Additionally, they found a Naloxone rescue kit, which includes two sealed needles and two jars of suspected Naloxone, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses.
Villanueva now faces multiple charges, including felony eluding, felony property destruction, misdemeanor child endangerment, misdemeanor mushroom possession, misdemeanor marijuana possession, and misdemeanor reckless driving.
As the case progresses, it remains to be seen what the outcome will be for Villanueva and the potential consequences he may face for his actions.
